General Principles to Keep Google Happy
Google is considered to be one of the most prominent search engines. Here are some of the changes that Google would be taking into consideration while evaluating online pages for search rankings, these changes are believed to address two major problems:
- Spamming, and
- Ensure new and original documents score higher than old ones.
These are some of the general principles that most SEO specialists adopt to keep Google happy:
- Anchor text of links – It is still considered very important from search engine point of view. It is important that these links include essential keyword.
- Varying anchor texts – Google expects that every anchor text should differ, but contain related phrases.
- Record specific links first discovered – Google is going to record all the links when they were first discovered as well as the change over time. It is believed that links with a long life span are much better than links with a short life span. So, start working on those links right, but don't expect immediate results from Google.
- New inbound links – If a particular website receives lot of inbound links then it will be considered as a spam activity. Therefore, introduce links gradually and in a consistent pattern.
- Link "spikes" – Google will also acknowledge a website with new links from "authoritative" sites. Remember to place links from authoritative sites.
- Old webpage with new incoming links – If an old webpage starts getting new links then it will be considered fresh. So, make sure to add links to important pages.
- Links from new pages – Try to add links from new or active webpages than links from "stale" or old pages. In case, you've high value links from important sites, then try to develop a strategy for keeping those links fresh.
Regardless of whether Google will implements all these criteria, but most of these points make good SEO sense, and help in creating a good base when planning a link strategy.
