What To Do Before Linking Your Website With Others
As a website owner, you might be aware of e-mails that you receive from webmasters. These e-mails usually ask you to make a link exchange with them. But, how will you know that whether you should link to their website or not? To help you in this regard, here are a few things that you should ask yourself, which will help you in your decision making process:
- “Are the sites relevant to yours?”: Ask yourself, if the sites for which the webmasters are asking link exchange have any relevance to your site. The relevance between the sites will determine your decision. If your answer is yes, then you should link to them. But, if you do not find the similarity between other sites and your site, you should give it a second thought before linking. Because, a link from a relevant website to your site can help is the preferred choice as it can help strengthen your website, thereby attracting useful traffic your way.
- “What is the Page Rank of the site on Google?”: The page rank of a site on Google also determines your decision of linking your site to others. Basically, a site with higher page rank is considered as an important site. Thus, whenever you receive a link from a Pr 5 page, it makes sense to link your website to it!
- “What if a webmaster asks me to link to one site, but links back to me from a different site?”: Well, if this happens, you should know that it is a process which is called a '3-way linking' or a 'linking triangle'. Do not be afraid, there is nothing wrong with 3-way linking. It is basically done for convenience. Whenever, you encounter such a link, first, evaluate the site you are linking to; and secondly, have a close look at the site and page you are getting the link from.
